Well as if we didn’t already know how hard this venture was going to be.
This years consignment of 16051 birds from across Europe were liberated at 8.50 uk time on Friday morning. There were no birds recorded anywhere on the day. The first 3 birds in the international result are all from Belgium. Although some top performances from some Dutch birds flying nearly 900 miles.
To date this morning, the 3rd day, only just over 2000 birds from the 16000 have been clocked. The first, and so far only, uk pigeon was timed by a John Chipperfield of Kent at 6.32am this morning.

There are now 11 pigeons back into the UK. All over the East of the country, nothing anywhere near my way.
The other thing is worth looking at is their ages. 1 x 7 year old, 1 x 6 year old, 1 x 5 year old, 5 x 4 year olds, 2 x 3 year olds and 1 x 2 year old.
So looks like they probably want to be 4 year olds before being sent.

Well done to those fanciers and pigeons that have made it home, hope a few more make it back over the coming days. As you say Andy it's a long road ahead for you and the Barcelona team and patience is the name of the game. As said before the odd yearling or two year old might well make it home but if you look at most of the 500 mile plus races it's generally the older and wiser birds that make it in the result.
I have a yearling cock come in this evening that could well be from this race as its chipped and rubbered, he has been fed and watered and after a nights rest hopefully he will finish his journey tomorrow.

With another 2 back into the UK this morning, the 4th day, there are now 16 back from 321 BICC birds. Although all superb pigeons that have to be admired the stand out one for me, apart from the winner that was nearly 5 and a half hours in front of the second pigeon, is the one from Strawbidge & Williams timed at 19:15 last night in Newport, South Wales doing 741 miles and the only bird so far to get over this side of the country.
