Just had another late bred return, dont know how it made it home,. Half of tail missing damage to wings, can hardly stand up. Makes you wonder what home really means to them.

Sounds like a bop attack!
Had a black cock return once with his crop split open, superglue soon fixed him up.
Another hen returned with most of her secondary feathers missing on one wing!
One of many many obstacles they have to fly through to get home I'm afraid

Yes Stu, that is it mate, we dont know what they have to go through just to make it home. Even after they have been hit they still battle on.

It is amazing what they will do to get home and in what condition. As you say Dev, a real love for home.

The problem we have when a bird returns to the loft after a attack, we dont know the damage inside the pigeon. They are getting hit with such force secondary injury is the main factor, of not being able to see the damage done.

So true, I had one couple years ago came in from flying around and as he went onto perch he just dropped dead, when I picked him up he had blood in both eyes, lost a gay pied same day

A few empty perches last night in the loft, but very pleased that 3 late breds from last year made it home. 2 of them brothers of Diesis and Slip Anchor, a good test for them at 108 miles in a very hard race.
Good to see those yearlings made it home on a tough day Dev, pleased others have followed suit today. That is one brave pigeon that returned as well, hope it makes a full recovery. As others have said It is amazing what they will fly through to make it home.
All the best.
