This weekend will be our final race of the season from Fougeres, 198 miles, with the BICC. The weather for the weekend is looking ok, although it looks like they could face a head wind, NW. That doesn’t worry me and would prefer that than a strong SW. They will have about 100 miles of land to sort themselves out a bit before hitting the French coast and the Channel.
I am very happy with the way the birds are looking and exercising. They have been on open loft for the last couple of weeks and most have now moulted through on the head. The only concern I do slightly have is that most of them have dropped their second to last flights. Obviously any that I’m not happy with won’t go but most seem fine. I have got the 9 that flew Guernsey, although there are a couple of these that may not go, plus the 5 that missed Guernsey due to the moult. These are all looking good now. Although this will be their first race at 198 miles I think they will be ok.
There are some lovely looking youngsters here and I don’t want to lose any of them but their not here to look at.
It might seem a bit of an ask to jump them into 200 miles first race but that doesn’t worry me. If I was to leave them until next year their first race would still be around 200 miles or more and probably not in as good a weather, certainly temperature wise. I personally think that at least at this distance they have plenty of time to sort themselves out.
Marking is Thursday morning so I will put up a list of entries Thursday evening.
Being on their 9th flight is not ideal I agree, but if the flight is a fair way up, they can be ok.

When the 9th is just gone, and the 10th is flapping around, it probably isn't the best condition for racing, is it?

I agree that this is a good opportunity to send them. If they are up to it. You know them better than we do. :)

You will make a wise decision.
Regards,

Murray
