Our little town like many others has its problems. But it’s also a town that comes together at other times. Yesterday was the funeral of a local retailer. Mr Mould had the cobblers just over the other side of the High Street to us. I have had our shop for 20 years next year. He has always had his shop during that time and for a good number of years before that. Not sure how old he was but way past retirement age. He had lost his wife a few years ago and apart from a distance brother had no family. He loved his race horses and had a financial interest in a couple. He had a regular routine and warning bells started ringing at the newsagents when he didn’t collect his paper on the Wednesday morning. He had been open on the Tuesday. He also failed to show on the Thursday when the police were contacted. They broke into his house to find he had passed away.
Yesterday the street was lined with people clapping as his funeral car drove slowly up the high street, turned around in the car park and drove back down and stopped for a while out the front of his shop. It was a lovely send off to a much loved member of our community.
R.I.P Jeff. You will be missed in our town.

R.I.P Jeff, shame no family or relatives to look after him

That was so nice, Andy. The town came out to say farewell to one of it's own. No one should leave this world without someone to show they cared.

Very sad Andy, good to hear that so many in the town turned out to show their respects and final goodbyes. Sadly so many of these small village shops will never reopen once the owners are gone, especially when people like Jeff have no one to take the business over.
