I first started keeping pigeons with dad as did Trev. We both joined the club as teenagers and over those 40+ years I think we would still be the youngest members of the club. I can only remember a handful of new members over all these years that have come into the sport with no family history in it. There are a few fanciers like us and some in our club that have come back into the sport after being out for several years. I suppose once it’s in your blood it’s always there. The trouble is now that new houses have such small gardens that you couldn’t swing a cat in them let alone have a pigeon loft.
I must say that is one thing I am enjoying with the Glastonbury club. The social side is great. Most members stay after marking and clocks for a couple of drinks and a chat.
To be honest Andy, this is where, more and more flyers have gone to OLR, in the club racing there is no money in the sport. on another topic we have looked at cost of being in the sport. So maybe taking a chance in OlLR gives you a chance to stay in the sport . if you touch luck in the OLR and win some cash.

Talking about members staying behind, it was always the same members staying to load the truck, they only wanted to put the birds through and off they went. But different clubs differ i guess.

George i agree, i have had some bad times myself dealing in OLR, but this will not stop people sending, its the racing pigeon lottery for some.
You can not send a youngster without a pedigree, it was set up a few years ago, and getting stronger worldwide.

Yes i understand George, but people will still send to these Olr, It's a gamble you take when money is involved. I am looking more toward the Mira OLR in Portugal.
