Yes George it is a small team but I haven’t the room for anymore. I think with the right birds it’s all I need. I first raced widowhood back in the early 80s. The best season I had was when I had 5 cocks scoring on a weekly basis. I will have a few on natural but would expect the widowhood cocks to beat them most weeks. The hens I’ll use will be either stock hens or ones I’m not worried about racing. These will still be treated well as I think the hens are as important as the cocks as they need to be keen for the Cocks on their arrival from the race.

Got most of what I can get done before actually going into the loft done now. So now when I get a bit of time I’ll start in the loft.

Good update, Andy.
12 widowers will be perfect.

So yesterday I had a few hours to spend on the loft.
I managed to get the what will be the young bird section done. The hens are in there at present.

I will probably put a few more perches up on the end wall and will fit an aviary later.

I also cleared out the old bird section that will be for the widowhood cocks.

Coming along mate, i am sure it won't be long away until it's all finished. Then you can enjoy time with the birds, getting them ready for a different part of the season.
Good luck mate.

The chequer beside your grizzle is fine, just a poor photo of her. She is tatty in the moult. She had all 8 youngbird races.
