It has got the inner circle George. But what it also has is a very full iris which is filling the eye and coming right into the inner circle so almost completely covering the circle of colouration. The inner circle isn’t all that wide or clear because of this but can be seen easier between 9 & 1 o’clock. I think you would struggle to breed anything much from this eye as it is so full and would want to go with one with a very open iris. I do like the old gold colouring though and the richness of the iris. I would think it would race well but that’s not what you want it for.

We call this a closed eye as opposed to an open eye ,noticed this in some inbreed birds ,the old Gurney birds had it ,like Andy I’m not a fan of it ,

The second eye is better than the first. The first one has a full inner circle that is fairly wide. The circle of colouration is a yellow it can be seen under the iris but the iris is still quite full. The second one has a much stronger inner circle. Wide and deep. Green colouration with dark shading between 2 & 6. The circle of colouration is yellow. The iris is still quite full but more ridged and mountainous. This one should breed well.

I would say that would be more of a racer than breeder. The pupil does appear a bit elongated but I think that is because of the appearance of the inner circle. The inner circle is quite wide with heavy serrations and shading between 4&9. It would want to go with an eye that has a more defined inner circle as this one has blown where the heavy serration is. The iris is well broken with lots of mountains making the iris look raised from the yellow circle of colouration.

I will stick my neck out and say that this is the eye of a successful distance racer George, as Andy said it will go well with a much fuller eye like your first photo in this thread.
