Glastonbury
Although we haven’t yet finalised the folding up of Frome I felt it was time to start preparing for the coming season. As I mentioned in another post I have considered joining the Glastonbury club. This club is one of the biggest in the West of England South Road Combine and won the overall points trophy for the combine. I have spoken to Dave Staddon tonight and he said that I would be most welcome in the club. So I am now going to send in my application to join after their AGM.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

You can apply for membership at anytime. But if you apply to join before the AGM, and your application is excepted before the AGM, you are then liable to pay for the previous year as you have joined before the end of a season. At an AGM meeting there should be a club meeting prior to conclude the season just gone, including any resignations. Then there should be the AGM itself. This is where all officers and club positions are elected and any rule changes proposed are debated and voted on, including racing and club fees for the coming season. This is all that should be done in an AGM. There should be no other business discussed. Following the AGM there should then be another club meeting opening the coming season. This is where any applications can be heard and voted on. The AGM meeting is effectively 3 meetings in one but all for different reasons.
So yes you can put an application to join in before an AGM but it shouldn’t be read or voted on until the meeting after the AGM. I will probably send my application in as soon as Dave gets back to me with their secretaries address but it shouldn’t be read or voted on yet. The other point is with my application put in before the AGM I will have to address it to “Dear secretary” as there is no guarantee that the secretary will be re-elected. They should however pass any applications on to the new secretary if there is a change.
After the AGM anyone can apply for membership at any time and often happens when someone moves into the area.

In the Glastonbury club they have John & David Staddon, national winners on a few occasions as well as many section and combine wins. Gary Hodges, section winners in a few nationals and several combine wins. Along with some other very accomplished members. In the combine is Geoff Cooper an international winner, Clive and jill Rogers, section winners In internationals along with many other very good national and international flyers. There are 14 clubs in the combine now. There were more a few years ago. I did fly with the combine with Yeovil between 2000 & 2004 and then again with Frome in 2017 & 2018. Although the distances for me won’t be great with the first race only being 35 miles and most under 100 miles with the furthest only around 120 miles it will give them a bit of a build up to the North road races that I want to compete in.
