This is an update from the BICC posted today.

Channel Racing Update 9th February:

The BICC committee met this evening to discuss procedures for the upcoming race programme, we were joined by defra vet who gave an overview of the procedures to be followed in order to comply with the new legislation for channel racing.

The following will apply for the coming season:

ALL BIRDS MUST BE VACCINATED WITH A DEFRA APPROVED VACCINE & MEMBERS MUST SUBMIT THEIR 2022 VACCINATION SHEET TO SECRETARY CAROL FRANCIS BY 1st APRIL 2022 IN LINE WITH STANDARD RPRA PROCEDURES.

ALL COMPETING MEMBERS MUST SIGN A DECLARATION (race sheet) FOR EACH RACE CONFIRMING THAT BIRDS ARE VACCINATED AND IN GOOD HEALTH. CLUB RACE SHEETS COMPLETED & SIGNED BY THE MEMBER AND PROVIDED IN THE HANDBOOK WILL SUFFICE.

ALL LOFTS WILL NEED TO BE REGISTERED WITH DEFRA ONCE ADVISED BY THE RPRA IN THE COMING WEEKS.

DEFRA REGISTERED VET WILL INSPECT AND APPROVE THE BICC CONVOY
PRIOR TO DEPARTURE FOR FRANCE.

THERE WILL BE NO ADDITIONAL COST TO MEMBERS FOR VETERINARY INSPECTION AND APPROVAL.

So now looks very likely that channel racing will be going ahead this year. Great news for us. Well done to all those that have worked tirelessly to get to this point.
Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.

I do think it’s going to be difficult for small feds and combines with the extra paperwork and veterinary costs to make it viable. I think possibly some may look to go with the nationals.
