Bird Flu

I see bird flu is getting out of control, another 5 cases today. One is in Billingshurst Trev. There have now been 211 cases in the past year. The first case was on October 26th 2021. The worst year prior to this was 26 cases. A few parts of the country haven’t been able to race much this past season due to being in restricted zones. As cases are bound to rise further through the winter it could make racing difficult next year. Hopefully things will improve.

Hmmm it has been bad this year and looks set to stay around for the forseeable, Norfolk and Suffolk have had the worst of it. There were a couple of cases in Hampshire earlier in the year but being as close as Billingshurst is a worry !!! There is a childrens petting farm just North of Billingshurst it will be a massive blow to them if they catch it. Yes it could really mess up next years racing again and could once again mess up this years shows !!!

The surveillance zone of this outbreak is only about 5 miles North of me and covers the area I would train from. There are some big poultry farms around here too but at the moment are still just outside the area.

It has been announced that of the 7th November all poultry and captive birds are to be kept in until further notice. Bird flu has spiralled again of late. I think we could find that we are going to be on lockdown for a very long time.

Just reading the latest bulletins and it looks pretty serious.
How does this affect you in the pet shop, Andy?

It won’t effect us in the shop at all Murray. Some things might even sell more, like straw and shavings as poultry are having to be housed.
