Can I pick your brains on the loft and lighting for it
what type of lights do you use or which is best to use ?
what time do your light go on and off now and during the winter as its dark by 6.30pm and not light until 7.30am
also clocks will be going back soon so do your light times change

I've got a couple of caravan type led lights, they are on a smart plug so can be set on a time schedule, but I haven't got a clue what should be doing

Although I have lights in all the sections. (The light bulbs are a mix of energy saving bulbs & LED bulbs) I don't leave them on when I'm not in the loft. When working shifts I had not option but to use them, but only to feed the birds. I've never used them to extend the daylight hours in the day. I don't pair my birds early so try to keep daylight Natural.

That's very much how mine are used currently!
Working shifts means it dark when I'm feeding them!

Thanks King, I have been letting the birds have the day light as we all do, I've no lights in the loft at this point, they do have the aviary all day, I was hoping the birds would be ok on natural light and see how they go. I only feed once a day when I get in from work I let the birds out to loft fly and range there out for over an hour then I get them in for feeding this is around 2pm to 4pm and everything is done then
What do you think

Hi Tony
Only use.the lights if your preparing them for breeding and only needs about 10 days.
I see the birds very little this time of year due to work, so feed goes in in morning and drinker refreshed

If you can feed the birds once a day in daylight you don't need lights. When I first started with the birds I had no lights and fed them by torch light when working shifts.

I haven’t got lights in my lofts. I have power for my ETS just never put lights in. I feed mine in the morning and just take away whatoleft at the end of the day. The birds will be split up soon and then won’t go out again until they are paired up next year.

Them days are over king

I'm usually home between 2pm and 3pm so I can get the birds out to loft fly while I clean and fresh water in, before I call them in and feed them up to now in the day light. Hopefully I might get a bit more light when the clocks go back
