Hi All,

This will be my first breeding season so everything will be new to me with Pigeons.

I am at the point with the birds I have, of watching them as they are late bred birds July / August time I working out Cocks and Hens in the loft, watching for the stronger birds who keep their perches, ones that Trap first to my call and corn tin ect....

But when it come to pairing up the birds I am looking for after Blackpool show that seems to be the date to aim for which will fit in with me perfectly. Would you let the birds pick themselves or from my eye and studying the birds should I have ago of pairing them up ?
I have 2 Grizzles I know one is a Cock for sure the other I think is a Hen but I will keep checking in on this bird. they both have something about them which I find good in both birds.
Would you ever breed Grizzle to Grizzle or is that a big no no :? :? :?

Why wouldn't you, it's the quality not the colour that matters

Although there is nothing wrong with pairing grizzle to grizzle genetically, your going to breed 'lighter' coloured birds. And if you keep doing so they will eventually become white. If your not bothered about breeding lighter coloured birds then that's fine.

Here's a few of my old grizzles, their colour has remained unchanged in the 15 years I've had them by not pairing Griz to Griz. The bottom picture griz was 14 when she died and i've 2 sons from last year the same colour as her when she was paired to a blue cheq.

Mating two grizzles is no different from mating two blue chequers or two reds. Makes no never mind.
I've got a few grizzly ones out there now, but they are all children or grandchildren of the grizzle Thone cock and the Billion Baby. So I'm pairing them to other less related pigeons which are different colours. I'd mate two grizzles if they looked like a good pairing.
It's the quality that matters.

Good luck Tony. I enjoy the breeding side as much as the racing.

Thanks all for your feedback I just wasn't sure if it was ok to go Grizzle to Grizzle I will probable take 2 rounds off them then try them both with other pairings just to keep a bit of colour in the loft

King really do like the look of your birds the Black is a love bird do you still have it

He's was my No 1 stock cock. GB 03V 29297 He was culled at 21 as he was really bad on his feet. He filled until he was 20. He was a Grandson of Marly Westrop's 'Rome' cock 9th Open flying 918 miles South Rd, and 48th Open Faroes 732 miles North. A grand-daughter of 29297 was 4th section, 141st Open NFC Saintes 451m 2026
Here's a better pic of him taken at 11, he was very much older in the first pic.
