I've discovered, as if I didn't know, that pigeon racing is a good metaphor for human nature.

I've had pigeons for a long time, they have always gone okay, but no one had ever heard my name, certainly I had no queue at the door for them.
After a couple of good seasons, this one just finishing especially there are blokes beside themselves wanting them.
My great mates Terry and Peter Robertson came over from Horsham today.
Terry said he could get drunk at the club for free as they try to get my phone number out of him. So today they turned up with breeder's plate rings for next year and cash. I only have a limited number and we don't want to be selling pigeons to the competition. But there are people from other areas who are after them.
I said to the boys, how fickle is this game? Everyone gets a turn. Maybe next year we'll win nothing.

That's a team of 10 that he's paid for, plus 4 breeders plate rings, 4 Gold band rings. The breeder gets 50% of the prize money on those special ring races.
Terry organized that before we won the Ballarat race and I'm happy to do it. But I've made it clear that we don't have $50 youngsters anymore.

How is David cox doing, he was best since sliced bread in you old reports. I had the pleaseure of meeting him, a.great bloke. I watch the results, and you have moved on to other flyers. I gave you the framework, to become a good breeding loft. Because you cant race there, You see observation is so important, its knowing what you have to offer. if you get it right, well things move on. But it was not for me to stay involved, but i had my reasons. Enjoy a new breeding season.

Davey has been winning in Bendigo nearly every week, his pigeons are a level better than the other flyers there. And he's only got about 3 or 4 opposition most weeks.
It's interesting that my pigeons, which are largely bred from the same pigeons as his, are beating him most of the time out in Horsham. So it appears the long hours and effort put into the youngsters is worthwhile, as you say.
I had closed the loft to any more introductions until David phoned me and said he wanted to send a pair, the cock direct of Hawkeye out a Heremans hen he bought in Sydney for huge money. He wants me to breed youngsters for breeders plates and OLRs for him out of them and in return I keep the pair. The general feeling seems to be I breed good youngsters.
I've had to sell a couple of pairs of yearlings to make space. The cocks are brothers of the second pigeon in last week's Ballarat race, the hens are sisters of the winner, 153. Peter Robertson from Horsham said he wanted them straight away, he runs a concrete product business, I said if he gave me some concrete pavers he can have them.
Your generosity in allowing me to extend the loft has instantly paid dividends, I am always aware of it.
