TNFS

When i was breeding the youngsters, I was always looking for the next thing in breeding. At the time i had my loft known as 5 star lofts, and i was breeding youngsters. In which I would be sending to Olr, yes it was my dream to breed the best. So i set out with the idea of breeding from Harry lines of Jan Hoymann, and the Rudy lines of Gaby Vandenabelle lines. I have to say, what i was looking for was. Birds that could be in the front of the flock, and maintain the speed while others dropped off the pace. I did manage to have some good showings in some OLR. The next part of the plan which i did not get to finish, was crossing my Harry/Rudy lines. And pairing them with Van den bulck lines. This was the aim that i thought would work, I bought some really good stock from the Van Den Bulck Lines, but not long after i was told i had to pack in the sport. If only i keep asking myself, who knows if that breeding line was the answer. Something I never got to do while in the sport. It was all about The Need For Speed.

Yes, Devo, it's about trying to improve all the time.
I've been making some new pairings this year, taking what works and trying to add to it.
I've paired the Slatey cock to another daughter of the grizzle Thone' and the Billiondollarbaby.
The Slate's father is a Heremans and his mother is a daughter of Red Blaze, Maselli's top Van Den Bulck cock.
The Billion baby is a Van Den Bulck, full of Kittel and all those good things.
They are bred to sprint but get 300 miles.
The hen has laid her second egg today so I'm quite keen to see what they leave.

Sometimes we have to look outside the box, birds that have worked for us in the past. There is always a new pair on the block, waiting to show their true ability in breeding.
This is where your research and observation comes together, I truly beleave its waiting to happen. First you have to make the thunder happen, then lightning strikes.

Don't have to look outside the box. You breed from winners it's simple. Not daft made up names for pigeons that aren't worth 2 pence, not breeds. Not people with flash fancy websites. Winners of races nearly always breed winners of races! For any new starters looking in always remember that! Pigeon racing is about winners. All the other bullshit you see and read is just to make folk money. New starters please ignore the bullshit commercial lofts and look for lads who keep themselves to themselves but WIN! The reason for so many loses early on with youngsters these days is a lot are bred from rubbish bits of paper 3 or 4 generations away from pigeons that have actually won a race!

That post is not aimed at anyone before the dummies come out.

Goose 1, I agree with you. But the likes of Harry, and Rudy, they were great winners. And have also shown to be great breeders. Proven all over the world, so yes I took a young lad to buy some birds from a friend of mine. He as raced top flight for 30 years winning combines, feds and also North west grand national. Along with RPRA merit awards. yes he wins and also breeds at top level. What i meant, was not depending on the same breeding pairs over time. think outside the box. And try adding some new blood into your breeding,

Yep too good breeders difference with them 2 due to commercialisation they'll have been thousands bred so thousands of rubbish and of course a few good ones. They'll have been many better breeders that weren't as fashionable. But yes we have a grand child of Harry that's bred us a few handy pigeons and two brothers from her we sent a lad in section L were 7th and 9th Open NFC this year from 2 of the early races. That's better Davo taking new starters to them kind of fanciers. What's the fanciers name?

My mate Brian crowe, from Crowe and worrell partnership. I am taking the young lad back, tomorrow morning to pick up some nice pairs. To start his foundation of the loft.

100% agree. You breed winners from Winners. Be it sprint, or distance you want ones from the winners or very close to them.
One trend which I thing is a big mistake is fanciers trying to improve their stock is buying winners from OLRs. These birds although the first home aren't real race winners. OLR winners very often win on days where 'proper' race winners are flying much faster than OLR birds. (probably the reason many chose to race on days when others are not racing. They also think they will get better returns, but that doesn't normally happen)

I wouldn't even entertain a OLR pigeon to be honest. If folk enjoy them that's up to them but don't compare them to actual pigeon races.
