From selecting youngsters, to build your own foundation. What should we be looking for, now we will all have our different views. But this is about obtaining youngsters, before they enter the basket.

It helps if you can befriend a flyer with the very best bred and best performing pigeons.
Then it's nice if you you can obtain some eggs or late breds from them and put them straight in your stock shed.
Then its a good idea to put some of the offspring in other good flyer's lofts and test them against their own birds. The pigeons that are consistently breeding good ones are the ones that you can concentrate on.
I have youngsters in quite a few different lofts. The other week one flyer, who is leading the averages in a very competitive club, 7 of his first 9 home were pigeons I bred and sent to him. So it works. It's a fast track to finding out which pairs really are breeding the goods.
Notice I don't mention strains or breeds, it doesn't matter. They need to be off pigeons that are breeding winners in this generation, not 5 or 10 generations ago.

Selecting off the shelf today to create a bloodline is easier then it was for multiple generations of fanciers the issue today is the quality of the fancier, it's like being given a bugatti and a land rover defender and not seeing the difference between the two, you end up using the defender to race and bugatti for endurance and obstacles

Thanks Buster, at times there are different subjects on breeding. So its good for new members to watch some videos, pointing out different types of breeding.

Well today you rightly say you can select off the shelf. The problem is many are mis-sold the dream. Many birds look the part and have the paperwork to back up the dream, but when put to the test their purchase fails. Many birds, more so sprint birds are 'Fast & Daft'. Many are fast getting from A to B, but when they end up at C, all alone with nobody to follow, they are fooked.
Give me the defender type that will fly maybe a bit slower, that ends up at C, but with a good sense of direction, will arrive eventually at B.
