Can anyone tell me the best boxes for breeding pigeons.
There are so many different types and sizes, boxes with plastic fronts which swing back 90 degrees to split the box in half, this locks the cock or hen out while the other is in side.
Others timber ones, that the front pushes up to the top of the Box to leave it open, but when closed is split in half with dowels one side and ply the other that can slide along.
Also if you know the best sizes length x height x depth
Thanks

I had a few different types of boxes over the last few years, including the ones with slide out trays.
If I'm to be entirely honest, I much prefer the simple wooden boxes, that I try to scrap out daily, or every couple of days!
I also prefer the boxes that are not too deep, at most I'd say about 18" deep, this way the birds don't become afraid of your hands going in and out of the boxes. It also ensures that you can reach into the boxes comfortably too!

I bought the Petron boxes over 30 years ago that had the slide out trays. Over the years the trays began sticking and around 5 years ago I got rid of the trays and put in solid floors again. Best thing I ever did. I never used the boxes with the fronts down preferring to use the boxes with the fronts always up. (pic showing boxes before I changed them to solid floors)

I use these boxes. They are cleaned out twice a day. But I do race widowhood.

In my opinion theres almost no wrong for breeding boxes aslong as the size is good. So many different variants that exist. We already had self build ones aswell But i did replace them this year with these.
But if you are balling on a budget id defintely go with a simple setup like i had until this year for 1 of the breeding lofts which is basically the same that andy has. Simple and works just as good and is cheap !!
