The Invincible Spirit racing pigeon (NL88-8840569) is a legendary long-distance racer and foundational sire. Bred and raced by the Dutch fancier Martin Biemans, he achieved major fame by winning 1st National (against 7,242 birds) and was later purchased by the UK's Louella Pigeon World.

Studs don't have to get their money back Dave. Depending how LPW declared the purchase, ie Bird is Classified as Trading Stock? or Bird is Classified as a Capital Asset?
(Annual Investment Allowance - AIA). The AIA allows a business to deduct 100% of the cost of qualifying plant and machinery up to £1 million in the year of purchase. While HMRC internal manuals note that standard livestock rarely qualifies as plant, highly specialized pedigree breeding animals (like racehorses, elite stud dogs & pigeons) often qualify if treated consistently
The Tax Result: If HMRC accepts the AIA claim, the £110,000 deduction could completely wipes out the any profit, reducing taxable income, in some cases to £0.
That's why some studs keep spending.

He was a beautiful pigeon to look at.

They sold off that pigeon for so many years after, the blood must've been diluted so much.
I actually got fed up with seeing the name and would never even look at a pigeon if it had invnicible spirit in thr pedigree.

He was in a show cage by the office door of the show room.
Can remember thinking how majestic he looked.

To be honest I was not impressed by the Louella lofts, i went to a auction there. I bought a blue pied, Staff Van Reet family for £70.00. It never done anything in the breeding.

I think LPW have lost their way in recent years, in the 60s,70s & 80s Louella bred VERY good pigeons. The last kit of 6 I bought was in 1988. Busschaerts of 'Champion Barney' lines. 5 from the six won cards.
