Looking To start up

Hi all,
I'm looking to start up with Pigeons later on this year, not really been able to before now due to Family and work but I am hoping later this year will be the right time.
I've always kept some sort of birds like budgies ect.....
I have an 8ft x 6ft shed which I can extend to 12ft x 6ft, would this be ok to start me off ?
What would be the best way to start, with old birds and breed my own Young Birds or get late bred birds for racing next year ?
Any help with these couple of questions would be great.

I’m sure the members will help with anything your stuck on
I think getting youngsters would be better next year or if your keen on starting now by the end of May this year so they can roam and get trained

You don’t want stock birds as there wont be room
If you could get 3 sections it would be good so you can split the cocks and hens to race although some do win well natural I find split cocks and hens much easier
Hi Neil,
Thanks for posting back, so you think it best to split the 12ft in to 3 sections how many birds would I best go for to start off cock and hens

Hi Neil,
Thanks for posting back, so you think it best to split the 12ft in to 3 sections how many birds would I best go for to start off cock and hens
First year I would fill it with as many babies as I could sensible and race them hard
I would make the hens section 3 foot so you get a 5 foot for cocks and a 4 left for ybs
Your get 9 box’s on the cocks at 20cm wide
Ybs your get 18 but put 24 box in as if your vents are good you could but 24 in there

That gives you 9 pair old birds and 18 -25 babies a year allowing you to bring 6 in a year to race from other fanciers
But year 1 full it with as many youngsters as you can as your never be able to do that again
again Neil, thanks for the advice over the amount of birds and what type (Y/Bs) how many breeders would you visit for these birds as I have been told not to get birds from a lot of different people thanks again Tony.

So if you like the sprint racing get them birds in
If you go distance and that France you have to be prepared to know your possibly be behind 80 per cent of the time in the clubs short races
I would say sprint to start and learn my trade, I think that would be the best way to go for me.

Most fanciers sprint I think as you get a race each week
I wouldn’t worry about thinking you need to learn sprinting to move on as it’s just as hard
Where you live sprinting is not easy
To keep a team fit to go each week
why is that Neil, about where I live. Would you say people fly more long distance by me.
That's another thing I will need to do find a local club
