Morning Neil, are Combine race baskets are lined out with corrugated paper then a dressing of sand on top.
I would worm them with different products during the race season as I think this is possibly how the transfer via pigeons in close confinement & being fed in the baskets with a hold over could be a big problem that would affect the pigeons health. Better to be proactive with these things & pieces of mind, you know what it's like on basketing night you handle all sort & some you know full well shouldn't be in the baskets full stop, my opinion is if you think a pigeon shouldn't be raced call it out if it's that bad.

Yes I think you need to keep on top of this along with all the other nasties they will encounter when mixing with other pigeons.
I'm sure your regime will be on top of most issues.

Dave, as Neil has asked, can I also ask if you worm them before racing/breeding and also do you worm yer y.birds during racing?

Dave if the parents have been wormed before breeding then at least in my mind that this would cancel out the need to worm my ybs as I'm sure they would not pass on anything in the egg.
Having said that if I had a niggle in the back of my mind or a concern I wouldn't hesitate to use Moxidectin + on them, maybe I should get a microscope & learn to use it properly in the future to back this up.

From after the moult until end of racing I worm birds alot ,I'm not scared of worming birds ,,never seems to hurt them and buying horse wormers is cost effective you get enough for 36 litres from a horse wormer for £14 to £16 depending on what one.

Never set plan m8 first time I worm after moult I repeat 7 days later then I worm regularly probably less that every month ,,the moment I see a feather out of place on there crop I worm birds , there health should ozzz health all the time feathers not laying flat n tight I can't stand to see.

Should you worm late breds at any specific time ?

Hi Neil from sep to Jan there's no wormers used pal during moult I don't test much only if something as me worried,,
With wormers I wouldn't be scared to worm every week pal for a month or more ,,iv wormed puppies weekly and seen the benefits from it so in my head a wormer is a wonderful thing for animals,
I bought horse once he was a skeleton standing few wormers ,lot of barley and soya meal and was winning County shows in 6 weeks after buying horse ,,wormers are magic pal to get super condition.

I mainly do my own testing for worms cocci and canker, then once a year get them tested professionally, only treat if detected, which for worms isn’t often, however so many fanciers say treating can give them a lift so I might try it a couple of times in the season next year.

Yes Steve nothing like a well timed antibiotic for giving pigeons a lift it's a fact .
In uk and Europe its all hush hush but in south Africa there open about it .
There's a utube channel called talking pigeons watch George Reid interview podcast ,and stear painter podcast you see the level they fly at and there 20 yrs infront of us with medical treatments for pigeons.
