Is the starch the carb content in it king that turns to energy,,so when u get poor maize with hardly any starch in it is basically doing similar to a pea or a bean give or take a few percent in protein,,I personally don't look at maize for protein or fibre ,I want carbs out of maizeking wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:41 pm That's not entirely right Ant. The white is starch not sugar. The rest is not waste but provides around 11% protein and 4% fats plus Fiber, Vitamins and Minerals:
I was told same as you Neil from South African flyer who feeds nearly all maize because there it's easy to obtain over mixes.NeilA wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:45 pmThat’s interesting kingking wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:41 pm That's not entirely right Ant. I thought they passed the shell in the dropping as waste matter so always thought I need the white chalk starch in the kernal
I’m guessing the shell provides carbs then ?
No Neil it's the maize starch that is the carbohydrate part. The body turns the starch into sugarsNeilA wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:45 pmThat’s interesting kingking wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:41 pm That's not entirely right Ant. The white is starch not sugar. Yes Ant feeding maize with low starch is pointless as that's want you want from it. Good maize can be 70 to 84% starch.Anthony webster wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:47 pmIs the starch the carb content in it king that turns to energy,,so when u get poor maize with hardly any starch in it is basically doing similar to a pea or a bean give or take a few percent in protein,,I personally don't look at maize for protein or fibre ,I want carbs out of maizeking wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:41 pm That's not entirely right Ant. Fibre from barley or paddy rice n protein from hemp or sunflower.
