Can any members remember what county or area in the county where they determine the champion of club every 4 years,
Australia rings a bell to me but can't exactly remember I see it on utube few years ago ,
The area races 1 whole season south 2nd whole season north 3rd whole season east fourth whole season west and the champ is determined then because he would of been only well located in one season out the four.

To do that sensibly the members would have to be in the middle of a relatively flat landmass particularly if you want to get some distance so Australia seems favourite

Even if there was valleys and mountains each season u be one side or another would make it much fairer

You want to try to get pigeons to cross mountains ask the BBC members that sent to Zaragoza a couple of seasons back it was an unmitigated disaster, there’s not many that will face the Pennines never mind the Pyrenees

Morning Neil, tbf Barcelonas not as bad IF the birds cross at the eastern end of the Pyrenees having said that, that’s why the BBC despite its name used Palamos for years instead
I can’t see the fairness in deliberately facing disaster it’s just silliness in my opinion, in Australia, the states or even China it could work and include some distance races.
Here In the Socialist republic, if we flew 45 miles East we’d be at the North Sea and if we went West we’d be in the Pennines in 25 miles with the Irish Sea a further 50 miles on
The only logical routes for us fair or not are N, S. SE or SW

I think the vast majority do cross at the eastern end when racing from Barcelona/Palamos. History has shown some individual birds have flown these race points several times.

The popular best supported races in Belgium were what we would consider short races from points like Quiverain or Noyon when I was over there 35 years ago, it was crazy on Sunday mornings the sky was black with birds and the fastest trappers usually won but since then sadly like us they have lost the majority of members and clubs if people are prepared to accept these short races then this “clock” racing could happen here as a lad we used to watch the milers race from a point decided by spinning a dial, not my idea of racing however, for me the big kick is watching a bird home after 10 plus hours on the wing

I know someone who has travelled across the pyrenees on many occasions. Told me that those mountains have thier own climate of wind and rain.
He will not send to Barcelona unless his birds have been to Perpignan first. So that get used to flying the Eastern route around the pyrenees.
