What corn have you decided to use when breeding & racing in 2026, are you going for the same brand mix again or are you going to change & use something totally different.

Hens I will keep the same 4 gerry 4 barley 2 fatty mix as that went well for me

Neil your hen raced well on that mix, did you feed the same to the cocks?.
I used what little racing I did was Van Robaeys nice & clean, not sure in 2026 is my ybs will be mixed in with my yearlings so I'm not sure what to use on them some will be 7 month's old with yearlings come May. As I said in a previous post I'm not going to have any ybs to race in August/ September

Thanks Neil, probably use the same but open to any adjustments with feed.

With moving the birds to my place I'll be doing basically all the work load and with work this is gonna be difficult so decided I would pick 4 mixtures that I can use all year round and just play with how much of which they receive depending on time of year, workload etc. I've gone with Jellemas all round mix, Bamfords eurowinner, Palomas Diamond D100, and VL depurative. Their being hopper fed and will be all year round as due to shifts I won't be able to feed them at set times unfortunately. Only extras to this they will receive is increased hemp, sunflower hearts, peanuts and homoform before a long distance race. I will also increase the Maize but still undecided on which maize to use and open to suggestions on that front

Will you keep the hopper full 24/7 ?
I thought about leaving a widowhood type mix with 20 per cent barley in like Anthony said refill when the barley has gone
I couldn’t understand it though as I thought that could be say Wednesday that there’s only barley left just when you want then to eat
Maybe I need to think to do that way with barley and empty Wednesday and only put say a widowhood mix in later in the week
Then me over thinking I will worry they scoff loads Wednesday as it’s fresh and drop Thursday
Or are you judging what they will eat daily and say putting 45 grams in at a time
As for maize I believe more sugar in the black maize but then I think you need the maize with the largest kernel as that’s where the starch is
Dog tooth seems to have been popular in the past before my time but I thought dog tooth was the maize with like two fangs and I am seeing corn called dog tooth looking like big plate maize so I now think I have not had what I thought was dog tooth correct
I'm hoping hoppers in 24/7 but it'll still be controlled to a certain degree. I couldn't be on with just putting feed on top of feed. I'll always have a decent proportion of depurative in the mix and even now I've basically got it so I know when I come to the hopper again I'll maybe have 20 pieces of barley left. If I can keep it going like that throughout the season I'll be happy. I don't have to worry too much about what their eating what day in the racing season Neil as these pigeons will be going on a Saturday purely as trainers. I'll be picking 4 possibly 5 races out and trying to have them A1 for them. Gonna be a quiet couple of years I expect as last year's disastrous season has undone about 6 years of good work with getting a few pigeons around us that had performed well that could take us to the extreme distance. But it won't be for lack of trying.

It's a suck it and see kind of thing Neil. Needs must and all that to be honest but it's the only way I can keep feeding consistent all week. Given I'm down on quality this year its as good a time as any to give it a go
