My dad borrowed a hen and he's flock caught parathyroid from here we had to cull he's flock so ever since iv raced iv treated for parathyroid not sure if it's needed but I wouldn't want to go through what my dad did that time ,,

Just watched it Anthony, Salmonella/paratyphoid disease can cause the development of abscesses, which may occur in various parts of the body but are most commonly found in the outer joints of the wings & legs. Additionally, twisting of the head is a frequent system.
If the hen is the carrier then this will be transferred to the eggs & when hatched the young will be infected. That's the one I've just watched Mike thanks.

I've never treated for it or vaccinated for it.

I think I may have had it at a time when I first started, I joined a medical club with a famous vet (cant remember his name) He gave me stuff to treat it.
What I found was that - yes it did transfer to the eggs but none of them would hatch and he called them "black eggs" and he said it was a classic sympton of paratyphoid - so would it still pass on to your flock if the eggs dont hatch?

I treat each year after moult sometimes use vaccine afterwards or paracontrol boost
It's my worse fear in pigeons.

Yes pal ,the south African vets like one in video ,Dr botha who makes aviomed products dr conraddie who makes medpet medicine these vets look after the health in big one loft races and look at there returns .
On utube its called talking pigeons podcast there's great video with Dr botha unbelievable how these lads now are making new medicine because old stiff don't do what it once did and antibiotics how they work better with different essential oils .

If he’s had a problem with paratyphoid then I’d say treat and vaccinate, if not I’d leave alone. Having had paratyphoid in the late 80’s I can tell you it has a devastating effect on the loft, and clearing the flock of it isn’t easy treating and vaccinating is no guarantee. I’d get them tested and go from there.

Iv never had it and for £100 of treatment it puts my mind at peace lads.

What would you use to treat bind with I have only use the Belgica product parastop mostly
I did try a liquid one last year but I can’t remember the brand now

Yep it was Parastop that he prescribed to me and the name of the vet was Henk De Weerdt. Had to give it for a prolonged treatment think it might of been 21 days.
Not had a "black egg" since so presume it cleared it up.
