Looks like the BBC have cancelled the Guernsey race this coming w.end - citing the cause as being an East wind???
I bet that will piss a lot of ppl off.
I've never heard of a race being cancelled for that reason. Im glad Im not a member as I would be fuming.
I live on the West side of everything so the only chance I have of winning anything is in an East wind.
Surely it should be down to individuals whether they send or not....what are ppls thoughts on this.

If this is correct, It’s as King says, races are now only held in perfect conditions and people wonder why birds go down when they encounter less than perfect conditions

The snowflake generation. It's wrong the BBC have cancelled due to the WRONG wind. Members are not forced to send, give THEM the choice.

The vast majority of the race is over water were it is always cooler, than when flying over land. Wonder if any inland races will cancel?

Organisations can’t guarantee conditions, it’s entirely up to the members wether they send or not, in this case they haven’t got the option as it’s been cancelled

Been thinking about this BB. The rhetoric that was quoted to me included the words "another disaster". Maybe what they meant was that they didnt want it to turn out to be a financial disaster with no-one sending BECAUSE of the East Wind.

I don't think all the damage is done in the race I think it's the temperature marking night and on the lorry I see a thing about 6,8 weeks ago a clubs crates were reading 36 Celsius in the shade so the club cancelled not the fed I see the photo of it ,,imagine 28 baby's in that crate ate 36 that's about 100 degrees so there be cooked ,I think like in other countries rpra must stand in below 90 everyone races above its cancelled for everyone,,
North East wind don't stop good birds never has but heat will stop them definitely in uk where its hot a handful times a year the birds just ain't use to it.

Been going back thro my notes and in 2025 21st Aug I sent 4yb to Bicc Guernsey with similar conditions - 15mph NE wind all the way home - no cloud cover but it had that heavy haze that often accompanies an East wind.
Got 1 after 7 hours to be 100th open/ 11th section. This hen went on to be the star of my shed and she is still producing today.
I got another 2 came after 3 weeks.
A tough race yes but how else can you test your birds?
You cant help but be sceptical about the decision because if you live on the west side of your club/ fed/section - the only chance you have of getting on the result is with an East wind.
