When I first started there were just three types of birds, good, average and bad
No one locally specialised in short, middle and long distance this was something imported from Belgium and Holland
Most fanciers wanted to compete in all the races from first to last with the kudos being achieved from over the pond.
If a bird won out of turn inland then it was rarely sent to France.
There was discussion around the old “Families” which of course they weren’t they carried the name of a successful fancier or breeder who bought in the best birds they could afford to improve their stock as any good stockman does
Millions of pounds have bee spent on this “Family” or the other because of the name, what is needed is good stock irrespective of what it is called, there are still good, average and bad in all sources.
