Keep it dry.
Keep it clean, keep it dry. The golden rules in loft management, along with other loft daily tasks. Every so often I would use the blow torch, to help clean the loft. After scrapping the breeding boxs and the box perches. a good quick blast of the blow torch does the trick. Along with scrapping the floor, this all helps with cleaning of the loft. you can pick one of these up cheap. But a very good tool to have.
The blow torch is a good tool where there is dampness in the building.
But we haven't had more than a few millimetres of rain in months. The loft is so dry I would burn it down if I went near it with a match!

But yes, a dry loft is a big help.
At present the overnight temperatures are down near freezing. Late in the afternoon I shut the front of the loft up completely. The air can still come in through the back floor vent, but because the front is closed the ventilation is restricted.
In the morning it's lovely and snug in there. I put the youngsters out for a fly and scrape out, the droppings flick off the perches and within a minute they are all dry.
The pigeons fly their hour, then have their breakfast. This afternoon they were full of beans and did another hour
So a dry, snug loft seems to be a good thing.
