Watch look and learn.

I remember when i built my first loft, at that time my loft was empty with no birds. A few lads that already offered me birds to start off with, and so the buzz began. But one bit of advice from a old guy in the club, told me to watch look and learn every time I entered the loft. I would sit in the shed for a couple of hours, just checking what was going on. I must say that never left me all the time I had birds.

This is why I have a camera setup in my loft!

So I can see all the behaviours and such like with my presence disrupting the birds!

I have to agree, if I still had my birds I would have cameras set up. But there is nothing better than contact with them and a calm loft.

I use to look what birds had habits but found it pointless some of the busy birds were crap some of the birds that sat in the box were crap
Think it’s ok if you fly natural but means nothing for routine sprinting the best are the best no matter what they do in the loft

With my widowhood’s they would be exercised morning and evening, cleaned out while out, let in after their exercise period and fed 5 minutes later then left quite until the next time. I wouldn’t go in their section in between times.

Agree Andy
Behaviour means nothing to ones that can race
You Can have the most intelligent bird in the loft but if the brain lungs and muscles are not born A1 it’s crap

I agree
I do think that the race pigeons should be left alone as much as possible, especially widowers. It's best if they can rest uninterrupted.
With stock birds and youngsters, I do like pottering around and spending time with them. I like quiet pigeons and just being with them or even standing outside and talking to the youngsters helps. I can be 6 inches away from them chatting away to them :D

Like i always say Neil theres 2 things that determine what makes a good pigeon. Thats whats in the head and whats in the heart - and you only find the answer on a Saturday

Results don’t lie

With widowers you’re simply looking for a pigeon that changes character. They all tell you, you just gotta be smart enough to read the signals

True that.
That's why I train everything. You can say it's too short in the keel, or too deep or it's wing is no good or any manner of things. When I was a jockey I won races on small racey fillys, big dopey colts, cheap things that had no pedigree but a terrific attitude....
I never condemn a pigeon because it's not good looking. As Mike says, you can't see the mind and the heart.
It's called character. Good ones have character. :D
