Fats are high protein mate as well as fat
I think VL energy mixtures are 18 percent protein
I think the error isn’t feeding the fats instead of peas etc but just doing it heavy at the end of the week if it’s a headwind
I fed my babies in 20 percent energy mix
I only lost 2 in the 5 races
So there were getting some fats every day

I agree.
Stuffing fats into them at the end of the week is not the correct way to load them up. I think a proportion of fats in the feed at all time allows them to digest and load up. Safflower is about 16% protein so is able to replace a lot of peas in the diet.
Greetings from the land down under. :D

Agree Murray
When mine come home they get energy mix only
Sunday I may add energy and VL base which is 16 per cent protein all small stuff for first feed
Then it’s back on 2 gerry or beyers Gaby
2 dupurative 1 energy
I can drop a dupurative Wednesday Thursday by 1 part if I think it’s going to be a hard day
1/4 ounce morning 1 ounce night young birds
Cocks 1/2 morning 3/4 night
Teaspoon hemp Wednesday
Thursday fill them then teaspoon hemp
Pretty basic but all easy to digest

The need for speed

The sport of racing pigeons, over time, has changed in different ways. The way we feed is one of the major factors in the sport, there are so many different brands of racing pigeon feeds. How do we know which one we should buy? What are we looking for to make our birds fly home in winning times?

Well so many top flyers of racing pigeons tell us different things, this is the best or that is the best. Racing pigeons over different distances, you have to have the right feed for that journey. Again time to look at different feeding systems, nutrition plays a big part of the sport. So what are we looking for? Well this is what one brand says,

Vanrobaeys Premium power
The new generation pigeon feed.
Recently, pigeon racing has had some major developments, and in addition to overall health, intelligence and motivation, the right feed becomes increasingly important, just as in oth- er sports.
We all love to see our pigeons train hard, because we know that well-trained pigeons will take off with more energy and a better condition.
During the development of the PREMIUM POWER range, a lot of attention has been paid to extremely varied and per- fectly digestible mixtures.
Originally, the PREMIUM POWER range was developed 3 years ago by our specialists for the German market, where the unique compositions have proven their value and are fed by many top pigeon fanciers.
A lot of pigeon fanciers call the PREMIUM POWER range “The new generation pigeon feed”.
The PREMIUM POWER range is now available worldwide, which gives you the chance to use this successful prize win- ning system.
So that is what one brand says, other brands may differ. The most important thing is, in the sport of racing pigeons. Enjoy the sport, and work to a system that works for you and your birds. Time is important in the partnership of yourself and your birds. You both get into a routine, which makes it more enjoyable. Along the way you will be told different things, take things onboard but try to find out what works for you and your birds.

So what do we know about the Vanrobaeys,

Quality Pigeon Feed
Vanrobaeys is and continues to be a family business that started producing pigeon feed in 1965. It has since grown into a major player that supplies many top Belgian and international racers with choice pigeon feed for their champions.
Vanrobaeys is passion: passion for quality and perfection, where everything has to be just right. To achieve this, quality control is critical since it is impossible to market high-quality feed if your “raw materials” are not really of high quality in the first place.
The goal of Vanrobaeys is to provide as varied an assortment of pigeon feed as possible. Each period of the year comes with its own specific feeding priorities: a pigeon has different needs during moult than during racing or breeding season.
After all, a healthy pigeon gets almost everything from healthy feed, and this is our rationale for continually rethinking and expanding our approach to keep up with the needs of pigeons today… and we do this especially for our customers.
“You might have the best loft or the best pigeons in the world, but without high-quality pigeon feed in the feeder, you’re nowhere!”

Nele Vanrobaeys & Tom De Meester

.

I have chosen this brand myself, I found it to be a good quality feed. Also good advice given on feeding systems for different distances, which I found so important.

We are all looking for the birds that we race, to get out in front and maintain the speed needed. While other birds drop off the pace, now that is a need for speed.

The success of the mix hides in the fact that it supllies extra reserves without making your pigeons to fat. Top mix for widowhood cocks and young birds for the heavy work. For the long and heavy long distance we advise to supply at the end of the week extra Top Energy N°35.

Looks decent Devo
I think I would try to just get the carbs to 60 plus and protein to about 10-12 which can be done with probably just adding some dupurative for one sprint races
