Do you put them in with the old cocks straight away / remove old cocks/ or let the young cocks moult out first

Neil i would let them moult out first, before i moved them. There is enough stress involved in the moult, then when moving the young cocks over. Observation will be needed for fighting for boxes, i hope all goes well for you.

I found it had no detrimental impact on the moult shifting em across

Did you have difficult older cocks that although my spare box’s are closed seem to want to claim them first sight of them opening up

I was thinking moult them out then remove the 3 older cocks in December for a month and close there box’s then let the young cocks claim there’s

There tends to be a bit of fun on Day 1

I'd be disappointed with the old cocks if they did welome new blood into their section with open arms

Having said that, your young cocks will outnumber the older ones so they'll be fine

In the past I had the odd young cock that flew the programme as a YB and then never showed itself as a cock until after the moult.

So that "cock" moulted out in his YB pen with the hen

He went through the moult no faster or slower than those that I'd moved

I have a plan to race 15 cocks 20 hens
Instead of just 18-20 cocks now the peregrine have started on me this year so the race team goes from 20 to 35 to cover things a bit more
But I am dreading picking the 12 cocks I need and with the moult and no race this week just gone I’m running out of chances for them to select themselves
