@andybird the intake time and age ranges is the main issue I see with olr! lots of different age ranges makes it a crazy nightmare for getting any kind of condition and coherent training done, they over use meds fighting to keep numbers and it works the exact opposite way, I'd personally want all intake at 35days and delivery on the same weekend to all applicants, I'd keep it at less than 500 birds and run it looking for the top 10 ace birds for 50 percent of the prize pool and a separate award for the grand final winner of 50 percent, and I wouldn't run a distance olr I'd run a sprint olr, just my thoughts but I do enjoy the olr, s

14/59 back so far today, this cant go on it's not just this OL but other OL are having massive losses, one OL started with 1339 on the 1st July and they're down to 249 from 116 miles bearing in mind their first trainer (from 2 miles) was on the 7th July. Irrespective if it's hawk attacks or weather or not enough schooling shit sticks and the Anti's are on the sports back more than ever, yes i know some feds have been wiped out but with these OL'S it's every year and it's the same excuses
Why don't the mover the race date to October when all the Fed racing is over then there won't be any classes with fed birds and the hawk attacks are very minimal by then

Totally agree Andyb these olr become feeding tables for the peregrine and they will nest where there is an abundance of food. They are like whsles, and will travel any distsncr for such easy, regular feeding grounds. I am even thinking that its happening at some of the racepoints and lines of flight as well.
The losses are atrocious and the continuation is only negative for our sport. It seems that there a lot of ppl like Devo have been in the sport are just desperate to have some sort of involvement and will still enter at any cost. (No disrespect Dev - just how I see it mate)
I am not saying its the same in all countries whrre they might be able to control raptors but in this country the record is absolutely appalling.

Not wrong @diamondave they have such big numbers even loft flying will be like a restaurant to bops and they get use to the times vey intelligent

As I say why not change the race dates if it is down to BOP then moving the race dates to October you are getting les his from them

Dont think it will make much difference Tony the birds will still need to be let out to loft fly so will still be vulnerable.
I think you have hit on a good one because maybe it has only been running for a short while but Percy will still cotton on.
The same amount of peregrines will still be around even if you change to Autumn

yes Dave but their breeding season is over so they won't be out hunting as much in October

@tony totally correct but unless you south west cost October is very different weather depending on county but I do feel the season will shift if the late warm season continue and with bop population rises eventually I do know Cornwall area have clubs running in October and the returns are very impressive

Yes Danny, some of the clubs there race the Y/Bs in October and they have had a lot more success over the last few years with changing the race date to Ocrober
