Chris, there are currently 23 guests looking in, which seems to be around the norm The site needs to be more appealing to these fringe members to encourage them to join and contribute.
The site has already captured their attention and they are obviously interested in what's going on. Is it possible to contact them directly and encourage them further or are they anonymous.
I am a member of another forum ( not pigeon related) that 'cull' such members if they don't contribute within a certain time limit. It did encourage me to post and say hello and I have been involved ever since.
I'm not on fb or y.tube and am a complete technophobe so not sure if I can help.

I've been on this forum pretty much since it's inception a long time ago.
The original format was a place where we all encouraged and assisted each other. It was all done in good humour and it was a great community.
It has now become a place where people go to pick fault and good humour goes to die.
I've tried to start a thread about what I'm doing in my shed, as a way to put something constructive on the forum. I see Chris likes my idea of tying the rings to the boxes with twist ties.
This is how it used to be and needs to be again. People posting about real events in the loft. Something which might keep visitors interested for a minute, instead of finding absolutely nothing about pigeons and an overall feeling of impending doom.
If everyone just took one minute to post one thing that they have found works for them in their loft, or some good news they have about a some youngsters they bred, or anything positive and constructive, in one swoop the whole thing would turn around.
I challenge everyone to WAKE UP. Shake yourselves out of it. This is a great platform to promote pigeon racing. Start promoting it.

I love the idea of posting a few pics of your methods, your records and other related things.
However, there are still the 'guests' lurking in the wings waiting to hear all those great tips, recipes, and advice from top class fanciers yet not willing to make a single contribution - still don't seem right to me.
So maybe the structure of the site could be tweeked a little to avoid these ppl just taking from the site without giving any thing back in return even if its just to say hi.

You will find, Dave, that every special interest forum has a large number of guests lurking in the background. It's how it goes.
I wonder if we can share enough interesting content to perhaps tempt some of them into the conversation?
I'm certain that no one who has a loft full of racing pigeons has absolutely nothing, ever, of any interest at all to share on a pigeon racing forum.

Agree totally mate, I always have promoted the site and tried to recruit but as you know not all interested and ones that do post are welcome, but folks who come on every so often having digs and causing issues are not

Attracting new members into the sport is a non starter.

I hate to say that, but from my own experiences over the last few weeks proves it so.

Even if people were interested in joining the sport, unless they have their own home and suitable space it's not going to happen.

Modern housing estates are built with covenants setup to stop buyers houses livestock or poultry, this is down to protecting the developers profits and being able to sell all of the lots.

Many councils now insist that allotments are only used for food production, so that allows poultry, but stops pigeons lofts.

So, we take a look at the rental market, find a typical family home, with suitable garden for a loft! Great your looking at paying £1400/month where I am.
Then you have to get the permission from the landlord to erect the loft and house the birds.


Your best options for growing the forum is to give people already in the sport something they can not get on Facebook!

I believe the only thing that will do that, is a platform to sell the birds, and deliver somewhere to showcase them.

There is so many auctions site these days though, so that's unlikely to hold onto the people looking in.

As for the 23 guests, you'll likely find the majority of those are bots and web crawlers.

And as for the YouTube mentions, how many of you guys go and look at websites you have seen on YouTube, unless they offer you something really enticing?

Aah I didn't know that mate - never heard of a robot racing pigeons but who knows what's coming next

So if you are one of those ppl looking in ....COME ON FELLAS/LADIES, COME IN AND JOIN US. THERE ARE ALWAYS PLENTY OF GOOD THINGS TO TAKE FROM THE SITE, SO WHY NOT PITCH IN AMD SHARE SOME OF YOUR VIEWS. At least come on and say hello
