I give all mine pink and black all year, I know some stop the black when damp but I just leave it in without any issues, cannot say what benefits they get but I know if I let it run out they go straight for it when I put more in

Just a little tip, Tony.
It's good to give them a small amount of grit and minerals daily so it's fresh. If you leave a tub full in the loft all the time, after a few days they seem to leave it. I think the dust and stuff settles on it and spoils it.
If you put the old grit out in the rain and then let it dry they'll attack it again, so it seems to be true.
