Spot on Dave, as long as you enjoy your pigeons why care what anyone else thinks, I never understand why people say it’s hard work, I’ve never found pigeons hard work I enjoy everything I do with them, and when you aim at the type of races you like you’re not going to win them all or anything like it. I’m sure you’ll get some nice results at some point if you stick at it. Good luck with them for this year.Diamond Dave wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2026 9:33 pm Lads, I really do appreciate all your help n advice and my birds have never looked or handled better thanks to your help.
But I if your way of racing was the only way, I would be spending my time fishing lol.
Whilst you can't see the sense in doing what I do I cant
see any sense in what you do.
Enjoyment of this wonderful sport comes in different forms and disciplines. For many it is a hobby rather than a sport.

With you me n Albert - we've nearly got a majority for the distance flyersSteve Howells wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 6:23 amSpot on Dave, as long as you enjoy your pigeons why care what anyone else thinks, I never understand why people say it’s hard work, I’ve never found pigeons hard work I enjoy everything I do with them, and when you aim at the type of races you like you’re not going to win them all or anything like it. Aaahhh thanks for your concern Neil, I was only having a little joke anyway.NeilA wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 8:23 am Don’t get a complex Dave nothing is meant against you we want you to time in on the wining day
I haven’t read one post against distance racing
In fact my post have always said it’s fantastic and praised it and wished you well
I haven’t praised birds days behind to me that’s failure so I can’t praise them
But I would value any bird flying the distance up with the leading pigeons
In its area I even said a sprint bird 3/4 min off the pace is poor so to me it’s the same thing if I’m 3 mins behind tomorrow it’s shit if I’m 30 secs behind tomorrow I’m ok with it
If I’m 20 mins behind I have had a total disaster
That’s how my thinking is for all races if I send this year in the nrcc and I’m 1 hour behind behind in my section I will think what’s gone on here
If your aim is to get one home then that’s great but if your 2 days behind I couldn’t t say well done
If you look the other week Anthony had about 15 positions in the first 25 of his club he was also 2nd
I read your post asking how he would improve that for next time to me that’s the same as me asking someone that’s 2 days behind at 600 miles don’t you want to do better to at least compete
The easiest thing in the world is to put a pigeon in the basket if it’s 50 miles or 500 miles there is no skill in that
I do wish you he best of luck and hope you get a good one at your chosen races
For me it was just a hobby when I took the birds over from my lad but now I have something to focus on but I still maintain that it is just a hobby for some wh9 just get pleasure in seeing there birds come home ( home as you all call it)
You don't have to be a "serial winner" to get pleasure out of racing pigeons and imo that needs to be embraced if we are to bring new blood into the sport rather than pissing on their parade.
It may me be difficult for some on here to understand or accept but that is the reality.
This may come across as controvertial and I hope no one is offended but IMO this site is dominated by serial winners and there is no place for ppl who just want to enjoy their birds their way.
I have my tin hat on and am thick skinned enough Ed for any flack...
I fully agree with everything you have put about this, my mindset was exactly the same yes a win would have been nice but my pleasure came from watching them come home, I got called a loser hence my signature if you look at it, but if I ever started racing again I would be just the same frame of mind, some folks get pleasure from different ways even though we strive for the same thingDiamond Dave wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 11:58 amAaahhh thanks for your concern Neil, I was only having a little joke anyway.NeilA wrote: Fri Apr 24, 2026 8:23 am Don’t get a complex Dave nothing is meant against you we want you to time in on the wining day
