If there is an abundance of down, this is also a sign that there was something wrong with your birds and they have just got over it.
Down fall should only be 1-3 pieces a day in a box or perch, I know everything is okay.
If you want to encourage downfall however, take some garlic make it pea size and pop 3 pieces straight down the throat for 3 days.
The fall of down is very very important.

Hey Wiley, not questioning - just asking.....
Why would you want to encourage the down fall mate and do you think there could be something wrong with my birds.....?

True that, Wliey.
A steady fall of down is normal, a sudden heavy fall indicates they've been sick and are now getting over it. It can be a trap for the unwary.

Hi Dave
Pigeons need to drop down feathers, the best way it was prescribed to me was that without the fall of down when flying it creates a stitch/pulling effect. The use of teas especially nettle tea will encourage downfall, and it is something you do want to encourage especially pre-season and then a steady fall everyday.
Dave maybe I've missed a post that says your suggesting something maybe wrong? If you can highlight it to me please, as maybe I'm missing something?
