Trouble is Danny I only have a short time first thing in the morning to do anything with the birds. I wouldn’t have time to go 25 miles and get back before opening our shop. We are hoping to sell up and retire in the next year or so. Then I may get more time to spend on them. Having said that I’ve never been one for training and the best young bird season I had was when our first race was 95 miles. I was farming then and never had them in the basket before the first race. I won 3 of the first 4 races.
I was a county swimmer and waterpolo player and didn’t bother training much then either still have a draw full of gold medals.

I totally get work commitments and for many it's simply a hobby/sport but for me it's totally different it's work for me and to keep my job or move to a better loft I'm results judged, the balance for people taking advice from me is take what you can commit to from my advice, or what you agree with and simply try it what you got to lose?

I totally get what you’re saying Danny. A lot of the top lofts are now professional, it’s a business to them. They are either retired or have people working for them. Fortunately it’s a sport where those of us that haven’t got the amount of time or finances of others can still compete at the top level. Nothing pleases me more when with my team of 6 old birds I was beating those sending 50 to 100 birds or even if not quite beating their first pigeons being very close with only one of theirs in front of mine.

@andy I get that totally mate it shows you have quality and ability, the saying I like is from an old mentor "anyone can hit the target if they throw 20 stones the greatness is in the man throwing 1 at a time and hitting it in less
