Yes mate count to 10 if you can still see them in the distance that’s border line
In 2022 I had 10 club wins and 5 fed wins out of 11 races , I sent to 1 combine I was 2nd Berwick London combine against the best in London
When I trained them cocks they scared me
I would let them go and not matter what wind hey would be house roof height
I let them go one day they did half a turn then came over my van I think about 5 foot above it
I was thinking there going to hit wires and this was a side wind the speed of them frightened me
That week I sent 17 I had 7 come through the houses together about 15 foot high to win the fed when it was worth winning

How many would you think my yearlings would need they only had one race due to circumstances although probably 30 trainers around the 18 -22 mile mark
Am I right in thinking that their priorities do not lie within the first 4-5 weeks of the season ?
Yes towards the end of May I would like to see form if any comes that is
I've heard it said that you shouldnt send yearlings til the weather warms up. - is this why you dont expect anything from the yearlings for 4 or 5 weeks Neil and you dont expect winning form until May Mike?
Do you start your yearlings later.
If that is the case, should that apply to training too.?

I expect yearlings sprinting to win on April Dave my issue is they only had 1 race but normally they should be as ready as the old birds I think for sprinting

You have to work within the parameters that you set yourself
If you've got endurance pigeons then there's zero point in trying to get super form in any races before those races come along.
Dad for instance flew the Van Hee and he was only interested in the 400 miles and beyond races. His approach was very different to mine - rightly so
I was a sprinter, so I wanted my form early. I worked my birds so they were ready to race in April and I've won no end of 1st Federations in April with yearlings with up to 5,663 birds competing.
Neil's advice was based on what he wants to achieve. He's not necessarily looking for super form from these rather raw yearlings in April. He wants them to shine in races 200 miles + from the end of May onwards - hence the approach is tailored to suit that.

Thanks guys
There is obviously a big difference between form and superfotm.
Assuming form is fit, and healthy ( maybe flying well around home for 1 hr twice a day) How long would it take to get them into superform and how long would it last.

To be honest I’m not qualified to answer I have had it and it just arrives
I think I had 4 fed wins in 5 or 6 races
I remember Shane said to me you could keep them pigeons in all week and there still win
But I never new how it arrived or how to get it again

Some yrs in comes some yrs it don't come dave ,
In 2014,2017,2020 I got it other yrs was good but never got that unreal super form ,in 2020 in the tough Wisbech club out of the possible 47 prices they won 43 of them and in a possible 35 fed cards won over 30 in the first 7 of fed many times taking first 5
Super form we dream of but just turns up pal .

I agree.
If you could bottle it and sell it you'd be a rich man
I've seen guys be unstoppable one year and follow their diarised notes to the letter the next year without the same success
There's a lot of things we can't control
Wind, weather, temperature. Remember though the birds are not machines. They're capable of f^cking up just the same as we are
