Sorry its not been good for you Murray I knew you wasnt well but didnt think it was "critical". It must be awful living on the edge like that.
I just hope you can have a good summer and enjoy your birds. I take cleaning out for granted but I shall think of you now when I am doing it.

As you know, I give my pigeons vegetables regularly. I think fresh veggies are good for them and the birds like them, so we are all happy.
One veggie I use is celery. Especially the leafy tops. Depending on the season we can pay anywhere from $2.99 for a bunch to $5.99 for half a bunch. Then I often throw half of it in the compost.
So, since we have embraced the country lifestyle and are planting things everywhere, imagine my joy when I saw celery plants for quick sale at $1.00!
They had just got a bit big, and these big retailers have to turn them over.

You cannot beat fresh home grown veg, I have some at present but every morning I go up garden there is less and less in the tubs something is decimating them overnight all that is left of broccoli and cauli's is stems no leaf at all but no idea as to what is doing it as never see anything

Just to let you know Murray I have been following your advice and giving my birds the. veggies.
I thinkI said that I was a bit concerned about the root veggies.
Got to say that my birds are absolutely rinsing them!
Today I even chopped up some swede for them to try and they have relished it.
All 3 sections have had cabbage, lettuce, carrot and swede and the lot went in no time. If they could've licked the bowl, I'm sure they would of.

Yep, Dave, I give them veggies all the time. Whatever I've got.
As you say, they clean it all up in no time. I have no fear that they are going to come down with an overdose and they clearly enjoy them.
I know pigeons do not need fresh veggies. Many have lived their entire lives and never seen a spinach leaf. But they certainly like them once they get the taste. And it can't do them any harm

I've got a bunch of babies going away to a couple of new homes on Sunday. I've been putting them on the floor, the ones that haven't jumped down already, for the last couple of days.
I kept a close eye just to make sure they weren't getting attacked, but no, everything is feeding them and they are all in the wrong boxes and it's all happy.
