Well Dave for the vast majority of fanciers you CAN'T get out of being affiliated. The RPRA has a Monopoly that covers most of England. If you live within the boundaries of the NWHU, NEHU, SU, IHU & WHU you do have a CHOICE. But the majority living outside those areas have Hobson's choice., a free choice that is actually no choice at all.
And that is why the RPRA can do as pleases, the majority of their members can't go elsewhere. You are stuck with them.

Hi Dave a lot of flyers around this area EM are joining the north west homing union. I am in the New north road amalgamation which flys under NWHU rules. Also i am in a couple of futurity races with NWHU rules and rings. whole clubs have left the r p r a in this area and joined the NWHU i am sitting on the fence at the moment but with the mess my ex club mates are making of the r p r a it wont be long before i resign from the r p r a . cheers jack

I'm not surprised by this at all. With many Feds not flying the channel any more it's more likely others will follow your example.

Our fed is fairly like- minded to me in the condemnation of the RPRA (not saying everyone in the fed) and it is a very well run organisation.
Is there anything stopping them flying independantly of the RPRA, - could they?

Good for you Jack. I hope you do follow those other flyers. I wish I had an alternative.
I'm pleased its not only me that thinks the same of that shower at the EM.

Nothing stopping members of the Fed leaving the RPRA. BUT Fed members would have to remain an RPRA member, if they are members of another RPRA club or National club. Those wanting to fly in any non RPRA club & stay RPRA members would have to become dual members.

As usual we have wandered away from the basis of this thread but as I’ve already said I wouldn’t comment further on that it’s probably a good thing.
What King has said is technically correct but under the current rules RPRA members can only be members of another union if that union is recognised, people should be aware of that.
Despite what some people think, I’m all for choice, but I would caution people that exercise choice to do so with open eyes and in full knowledge of what that means.

ALL other UK Unions are recognised. Which one do you know of that isn't? And what choice do RPRA members have?

I don’t disagree with you, all the home unions as shown in the appendix to the rules are currently recognised. They all have boundaries in which applicants must reside, the exception being the NWHU who currently accept application from potential affiliates (not full members) for the purchase of rings etc outside their boundaries.
You know as well as I do that there is a letter to be discussed relating to their recognition at the Council meeting following the AGM.
Should they become unrecognised, which I hope doesn’t happen, then that will leave those that have joined unable to compete in any RPRA affiliated organisation as you are also aware.
As for the formation of a new union, I believe that that too would be unrecognised with the same effect.
People should be free to choose their affiliation, I just feel that they should know exactly what that means.
