Latebreds hatched quite late in the year (July onwards) often won’t moult through the whole wing in their first moult. Rather than help it probably puts them at a slight disadvantage as these end flights will be old flights and possible have a bit of damage. The other thing that can happen is they can moult from both ends of the wing or dropping 2 flights together. Latebreds that do well still carrying nest flights in my opinion are very good pigeons and should do even better the following season with a wing full of new feathers.
