I got 2 barless blues from Matt White in 1983. Can remember picking BOTH up reported 30 miles away some 2 miles apart. Does that answer your question
Matt had them for years and got his to fly 1,000 miles. Mine not so far.
Yes it does King, so Matt did very well with them. I read reports some did over 1000 miles. Thank you for reply.
Came across an old photo of Matt Whites birds.

I would say the bars are visible, but possibly influenced by the sooty(?) gene.
But having said that I am absolutely not an expert in anyway!!
Would guess it'll be more obvious after the full moult!
What were the parents btw?

Cheers Matt.
The parents are a heavily splashed red cheq cock
and a black grizzle hen.
This one belongs to a mate of mine but both are off the same grandparents.
We was only comparing them the other day.
Interesting that they both have the odd black feathers but both look like hens to me...???

There all ash spread. LPW sell theirs as barless mealies in their Faroes family, but again they are all Ash spreads. A true barless mealy looks like a normal mealy without the bars.

King, with regard to " black splashing" is there a difference in the birds genes between feathers that are generally red but have black smudges and feathers that are entirely black.
Hope that question makes sense.
