Not people with flash fancy websites. Winners of races nearly always breed winners of races! For any new starters looking in always remember that! Pigeon racing is about winners. All the other bullshit you see and read is just to make folk money. New starters please ignore the bullshit commercial lofts and look for lads who keep themselves to themselves but WIN! The reason for so many loses early on with youngsters these days is a lot are bred from rubbish bits of paper 3 or 4 generations away from pigeons that have actually won a race!

That post is not aimed at anyone before the dummies come out.
Got to agree with that goose, as with the losses this yb season it's all about making money for these studs & people are fooled into parting with there hard earned cash thinking they have something good only to be disappointed .

100% agree. You breed winners from Winners. Be it sprint, or distance you want ones from the winners or very close to them.
One trend which I thing is a big mistake is fanciers trying to improve their stock is buying winners from OLRs. These birds although the first home aren't real race winners. OLR winners very often win on days where 'proper' race winners are flying much faster than OLR birds. (probably the reason many chose to race on days when others are not racing. They also think they will get better returns, but that doesn't normally happen)
I wouldn't even entertain a OLR pigeon to be honest. If folk enjoy them that's up to them but don't compare them to actual pigeon races.
Again I'll say it's all about the money, the amount of pigeons coming together, not many olr that you can say that they've had good returns, not regulated for starters, unless someone is going to tell me differently. So how can you say if you have an intake of say 1000 pigeon & over the hot spot races you only get a handful back if your lucky when the final race is run that that's helping to generate interest in the sport, it's all about the financial gain for those that run them .
Jmo before anyone has a go.

Can i ask a very simple question please? When are the owners of all these young birds being lost. Going to take ownership of their mistakes, breeding to early or too late. Not training the young birds to be ready for racing, sending when they are not healthy for racing. We could go on all day about this, but i do think its time to take ownership. Yes the Bops, the weather and phone mast. all get blamed.

There's a good argument to be made for what your saying but again you need to start with the right tools first. Years ago folk bred from their racers. Lots including ourselves didn't even have a stock loft. Pigeons were bred from pigeons that had raced and performed. Now because of this bullshit commercialisation folk are breeding from totally untried and untested generations of pigeons because coconuts who couldn't fly a kite have found ways to promote themselves. Most realise they can't race a pigeon and so concentrate on breeding because it's easier to hide there.

But I do agree with your post.

Goose 1, I could not argue with your points. When i started in the sport many years ago, i would sit at the marking station. I would be around some great flyers in the north west. Les Kilshaw i could listern to him all day long, Pauline ackers was another great flyer. So i would be asking where i should go to buy some birds to start with. I went to Hamond and Whitaker from Warrington, I bought a pair of young Grooters. There was no internet, just word of mouth. The sport as changed so much, for the good or the bad?

All very true.
When you get something that works you need to maximise it.
My Billiondollarbaby is by a superbreeder Heremans called Hawkeye. He's left so many Fed and Combine and special race winners they've lost count. Now his children are doing the same.I'm filling my shed up with children of the Billion Baby and already they are doing the job.
And yes, the Billiondollarbaby is a daft name, :D I foster raised a pair for a mate and when he came to collect them he told me to pick one. I chose one and he gave me it's pedigree. My eyes nearly fell out of my head. :o I said, "It's a billion dollar baby!" And it stuck.
The Billion Baby has left winners since her first nest.
It might not be worth a billion, but she is to me. :D

Had an Australian visit our loft once, John Hanson. He went on to be one of the main buyers at the original Jos Thone sale. He explained the standard of racing in Aus. Was interesting. That must have been around 2006

It would be difficult to compare the racing between here and there, I guess, but there are top flyers who are hard to beat everywhere.
I think the biggest differences are the scale of it and the way the the racing is done.
Over here the 'average' loft will probably breed between 100 and 200 youngsters every year, some more. And the winter racing, mainly with young birds is different,.
But just like in the UK, the good blokes are very good.

I totally agree on the points about paper pigeons and people selling purely for profit also believe it's affecting the overall quality available to fanciers , pedigree to me Is either containing results for both parents or they have to be children or siblings of champions, 90 percent of our stock are fed winners only birds that are not are directly from special birds that have achieved and bred us the fed winners , the buying decision is upto the individual don't buy if they don't have the results is my opinion

If i was to go on the internet, and find an auction for racing pigeons. Now because it is online, i need to find out about the history of this bird. So all recordings about the bird is on the pedigree, that is if it has been truly recorded. Now it is up to me if i wish to make a bid, and if i feel it is the bird for me i buy it. With my own money.
