Talking from experience mate, it is very likely that you could be offered birds and advice from here there and everywhere.
Most ppl in this sport have the best intentions at heart but their best intentions with both birds and advice aren't necessarily whats best for you.
Don't be frightened to say no to ppl who offer you birds.
When we started my lad with the birds, because he was a lad he got given birds from lots of club and fed members. It took us about 8 years to sort those birds out and back then others were not free with advice so we had to discover everything the hard way. (There were no forums around then.)
Now, as Dev says, all the info you need is on the Internet and what isn't is freely given by the lads on here.
Do your own homework on the best birds you can bring in whether they are bought in or gifted but only get/ accept the best for whatever discipline you want to compete at.
Wish you well mate.

There are some really good top flyers in the north west, what club are you looking to join Tony?

I've asked round as I believe there are 4 clubs within a few mile of me but I did contact one of the club sec's and give him my details when he got back to me he said that there club could fit me in and to contact him once I'm up and running with my loft and birds. A lad called Terry Taylor can't think of the club name but it's south end of Liverpool

Yes Terry is a good lad, and so are the rest of the members. I am sure you would enjoy that club, but check out what is best for you.

Well he got back to me right away after I left a message for him, asking if I could join their Club, he was ok for me to join so at least that's a good starting point.

Dave, I just need pointing in the right direction, as I still have to extend my shed, and get the set up right from the start, then all the stuff like feeders and drinkers that's before I get any birds.
The thing with the birds is getting started with the right ones that will help me in the sport, I'm not sure to get Late Bred birds and breed from them next year I can also race these as old birds next year or old stock birds and breed from them to get the Y/B team.
Plus the cost of the birds some of the best birds go for a small fortune.
Thanks for the feedback Dave

Personally Tony I would go with getting late breds. I wouldn’t worry about them coming from 3 different lofts, 4 from each if you want 12. I would go for late breds from their race team rather than their stock birds. Their race birds would have come through this years racing so will have something good about them. Just make sure their from birds that have been racing at the distance you are looking at. Stock birds are all well and good but they will have to be kept in and they would probably be older birds that others want to move on. I also wouldn’t be swayed by big pedigrees or names. These mean little about what the birds will do. As I said get birds from ones that have already been tested. They won’t all be any good and realistically if you get 4 reasonable birds from the 12 you’ll be doing quite well. The odds would be no better if paying a fortune for them. The late breds should be able to be bred from early next year and you should be able to get 2 rounds, 4 youngsters from each pairing.
Just my thoughts. Others may not agree.

Thanks for the feedback Andy on the birds and what to get to start me off.
I have been offered some birds from a couple of people I follow on YouTube on Live stream so you can see the birds trapping home from the races, One fella as offered me them for free another a few £ which won't kill me so I don't mind and I'm in touch with another who will let me know the price on a kit 6 which I think won't be cheap but they will be from good stock so it could be I end up with 20 to start off with but I will let you know on this over the next few months,
