Anthony did you see the Lamberton one on Roziers he mentioned he didn’t pair his yearling cocks and just let them have 5 days together once a month with hens in the period before the season starts and some never had a hen at all

Iv currently 36 cocks 30 hens
It don't bother me there getting guts worked n raced out of em this season last few yrs only played at it this Yr, raced hard cull hard n same with stock what's left will be worth corn.

I paired all yearlings left them 3 weeks split them 2,3 Yr cocks not paired they know the score been out now 5 times hens doing 45 mins cocks 35 mins ,,there flying ok but not tight enough yet ,trapping is ok but reputation will make it perfect,,unsure whether to run again for 3 weeks n train them 8 to 10 days on drive then just train on nice days until racing.

Probably still train but no more than 8 mile ,don't like loft flying paired up it's like there brain as been removed lol.

Two decent loft flies today one for each sex, both not like on a bit of string
Both 45 min and only there 6th time out
Im thinking is it a little early to increase this or maybe go out every other day for a couple of weeks

I have noticed the food intake isn’t high they are not over fed this time of year 30-32 grams yet the cocks never cleared it these last two days.I must have took over half a pick pot full away
So that’s a bit odd


How important do others feel routine is this time me of year ,not going to be easy to get them both out each day with work so would you cut it to 30 min each or 45-60 every other day each

My hens are similar Neil iv gone away for few days but told my lads to give hen 24gms aday each cocks 28gms

Sounds like you have them going well already Neil.
I envy the dedication mate. I can certainly see the benefits of the strict routines but I always find theres something gets in the way.
At the mo, I have lost all control of my birds flying out due to them breeding - I open them up once am and once pm so cocks n hens get to the chance to excersise but some often go out together more often than not its quite chaotic with birds going up onto the house roof etc. Is this going to be detrimental to racing?

I would rather leave them in than let them behave bad dave ,,I definitely wouldn't have birds touching a house roof ever ,,
Get a tough race first thing they see ,,a house roof they stop on ya come home late ,,my thinking the last thing a pigeon should ever think is landing on buildings is ok and good ,,
Ime different to most because roof hoppers n there parents are culled if they don't toe the line .
Try chucking a new potato at them if they touch roof but if not I wouldn't let it continue ok pal.

Thanks for those replies lads, I will follow your advice Ant and keep them in when they are all hatched out.
I've got them on barley and peas and pellets at mo and can still csll them in after they have been out for about 1n half hours.
How many days before the hatch should I start feeding more substantially?

Years ago when I worked away a lot I just kept my pigeons on beans Dave
I called them in with about half ounce of Gerry a plus with fatty seeds like hemp rape sunflower they trapped just as good as mine do now
Maybe that might work to get yours coming to your instruction plus having food for the babies
They flew well on that mix it’s similar to what Goose posted a video on a few months back .I sent about 4 times to Bordeaux in the bbc had a 4th open in it and 12th all at 485 miles .
One year I trained them put them in for there first race at 255 miles with the bbc was 29th with a yearling
I sent to 3 combines from France had a 3rd 4th and 13th from the 3 races the next season
They were crap inland about 8-10 min off the pace use to frustrate me
Didn’t t persist with it after about 4-5 years as my enjoyment was really sprinting on the north into London and soon as I got in a north rd club I switched the birds to north as it’s more true racing to here

Thats a great idea Neil, I am going to get some farm peas n beans to rear the babies on this week as they are due to start to hatch this coming w.end.
I wont be so frustrated about them being behind on the shorter races cos my enjoyment is opposite to yours and I dont get anything out of that type of racing.

Most yrs my hens act like baby's this Yr they seem different like there never really hungry
