That’s interesting king
I thought they passed the shell in the dropping as waste matter so always thought I need the white chalk starch in the kernal
I’m guessing the shell provides carbs then ?
No Neil it's the maize starch that is the carbohydrate part. The body turns the starch into sugars
So the shell turns to starch not passed out ?
The shell is digested as protein, fats , fiber, Vitamins and Minerals Neil.

I didn’t know that king I thought it was passed out
Thank you
If you yourself swallowed maize whole without cooking Neil you would pass it out as it's too hard for humans to digest raw. Birds can digest it only because they have a have a gizzard.

Are the shell on sunflower the same as I always avoid them as I thought the shell pointless
Pigeons can break down shells with the gizzard but the shells don't have much nutritional value. Mine eat them as there in bamfords multitask mix
