We know there's many ways to successfully feed a pigeon
Colin and Linda have done very well and clearly their methods work well for them
I can see a "Best all Round" type mix working well at the distance; but for me, when sprinting you have to fuel a pigeon differently (swifter)
In the past I've driven a Diesel Peugeot Estate and I now drive an Electric Audi.
Both are cars, both get you from A-B. But I know which covers 0-60 in the fastest time by a country mile
In the past I've fed 1 mix (sprinting). It was V-L "Prestige" and I won 6-7 RPRA Awards on it in 5 years (mostly sprinting but there was a 0-800 ml in there too). The "Prestige" mix at that time was (for me) the best widowhood mix on the market. My circumstances then changed so the feed changed to a Gerry / Superstar / Energy mix and that year I was 2nd National Ace RPRA Sprint Champion of the UK
I guess what I'm trying to say is I can think of no elite athlete that would prepare itself to race the same way
In 2003 I ran the London Marathon. It was the same day that Paula Radcliffe broke the World Record. I remember her post-race interview like it was yesterday. When asked about her pre-race meal it was Porridge and a Protein bar
Now, compare to Usain Bolt. He ate nothing but chicken nuggets while he was competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics because he was worried about getting food poisoning, so he stuck to the only thing he knew: chicken nuggets. Typically though his pre-workout meal was pumpkins and yams. Pumpkins and yams are nutrient-rich sources of fiber and carbs.
Definitely don't use best all round pal lol me n colin are pals like you n Neil are ,one thing I know he's times are precise he's great eye n also Linda is unbelievable with little cage birds she is massive part of team as well the two of them are really fantastic people. Colin just don't get pulled in to what others do ,,

Another one Jimmy dutton told me ,Mike can ask him Jimmy said Alex docx pots for cocks are full all the time he said there's probably peas in bottom of pot months old because he just fills them up when cocks loft fly ,we know how Alex sprints in belgium.
See I like fats and do ok ,I have pals that like fats and do ok then I have pals who have never bought a fat mix in there life and still do ok

Right for everyone
1 mix its 58% carbs ,12% protein, 8%fat
So every 100 gms eaten is 8gms fat
Racing pigeon cock or hen say eats 200 to 250 gms a week if you fill the crop Thursday pm ,
So that's 19 gms fat taken in by pigeon plus 3 gms fat stored on liver,
The hour exercise am n pm will run on the stored fat so bk down to 19 gms fat .
Is there any need for extra fat when a bird burns 3 gms fat each hour its on wing as a guide ,,or do fanciers like me including try and be clever and up fat certain days n up carbs to 60plus percent certain days , surely if we look at it the 1 mix as the bird covered for most races the longer races the birds are on lorry using no energy just eating gaining weight really.
Just me thinking 1 mix does cover alot with out playing around.

If it works Neil don't change pal ,I look in my diary's alot and I use more fat than most but I don't ever over feed pigeons I think that's why fat works for me really well pal I don't just use fat in food even now I be using 30ml oil aday on the food for all the pigeons and a supplement each day over feed with extra fat and protein so I really abuse fats compared to others but as I said birds here ain't fed like pigs there fed like pigeons that race.

My pal races in Kent he's never raced north rd but think he's won 13 combines when combine was massive don't know how many amal few yrs bk won fed n amal 5 weeks running 5x 1st national from 200 to 568 miles
Won longest race in fed 21 yrs from 22 yrs solid there's better records like mark gilbert and may be mark bullard but no one in Kent as done what he's done at all distances not included the 1st he's had in east of England contential club from France think 2 yrs bk from Guernsey he had 12 together n 18 in a minute of so taking first 12 in East of England,
He's such a good pigeon man that keeps it so simple and don't mix words one day he said there's 3 lofts here full that can fly bergerac on day 460 miles but maybe half a dozen that can do tarbes 560 miles he said that extra 100 miles really sorts the birds out ,
I listen two him n think do I make pigeons complicated because he laughs when I mention fats carbs protiens makes me really re think once we talk about pigeons.
Colin Fagg be your mate is it Anthony? I like his way of thinking just keep it simple. Our best seasons are always when we lean towards what you'd probably call an old fashioned style of management. When we complicate it things just don't go smoothly. And I believe to hit super form everything has to go to plan. You get hiccups ya chasing ya tail trying to force it. I've read all the posts this week from Neil, Mike and yourself plus others and I've enjoyed it, it's too in depth for me I'll be honest, I do admire the length yous go to and the thought process, but would be too much for me and the way we like to do things. But certainly food for thought and there's been so much brilliant advice and info on the forum this week for fanciers new and old.

Ya pal I come from Kent me colin and he's son Adam are great friends we been swapping pigeons 16 yrs now I refused open cheque for my no1 hen but I give her and no2 hen two colin when I moved away in 2014 pal no1 hen bred so many fed winners think me n colin stopped counting at 30 first feds she had bred so many treble fed winners but the no2 hen paired to the no1 cocks brother bred colin first nfc as well ,I call it the no1 family but its half mine half colins with out each other we would of never found them ,,the no1 hen when paired to the de Meyer big man bred treble fed winner n he had 3x2nd fed landing with winner plus 1st Bromley open as well I give colin a brother to this cock colin bred a meley that was 2nd combine colin crossed this with the 2nd hen that won first nfc these are pigeons I like pal very honest up two 400 miles and best we owned on East winds but now n then you get one that goes further colin as one now a yearling he was 3rd nfc then 42nd nfc tarbes as yearling this year pal .
One thing stands out colin told me every national winner he has had had a bad race n spent time away from loft and had to rough it two get home but went on to win the big one for him .

I like oil use to use it but the dropping got a bit wet and I went back to seed but I agree is the quickest way into the system
See I can leave barley in 24/7
Work out the hours I need for a mix and work the days back with doing it on 15 grams I can judge it easier so that’s a feed but they may have 1.5 feeds morning and night Wednesday so that’s 3 of my hours flying gone
If I don’t really need fats to Thursday morning I can bring Gerry in or similar so there starting to eat more again Tuesday
If it’s Peterborough I wouldn’t touch the fats other than what’s in the gerry and a punch of hemp
If I loft flew a hour and trained 40 miles Monday I would drop my 18 percent fat to say 12 and feed it t more days
But sat in the shed barley Sunday Monday does the job first feed Tuesday morning first fly Tuesday night
Hens don’t have the 18 percent as they fly out from Monday a good hard hour so lower fat than the cocks but more days then Increased on distance say Wednesday night or Thursday
But its a trial as hens are only really been in my mind this year apart from a few odds in the past
It’s a interesting subject and like you be interested in how others go about it
See I don't use barley in season I use it if they go off form 100 percent barley all week zero exercise tea 7 days normally top fed that week birds moult on 50 percent barley but in season it's not used ever pal here .

I wouldn’t be without it mate
When I was in hospital they had it all week cane out Thursday let them out one feed of mix 1-2-3 club 3-4-5 so I thought that’s not hurt them why there locked in
Now it’s energy Saturday
Barley Sunday Monday when there stay in the shed
Monday night start of mix
Loft flying starts Tuesday and then the grub changes to mix
Me being me I thought could I have won the fed if I never fed barley that many days

but 2 days is fine I find for sprinting probably got it as Shane use to drum it into me to feed good barley to me
I love it two but not in season lol iv had 9 on drop to win fed when fed barley but had 33 on drop to top fed not using barley in week I use barley if I see birds feet change colour go dark but all time feet are pink I don't use it in season at all ,,I notice first thing to change when there's a dip in form is colour of there feet .must say tho in the massive North rd feds I couldn't get the big drops like south rd biggest drop was 22 birds but mostly 3 to 6 birds were more normal but on south rd I can really pile them in racing up two 170 miles.

Probably the width of the fed and more head winds in your Peterborough fed not helping
I think the size is 1 part but I think the A1 is problem when you race on coast the north rd birds come lovely when ya on A1 there all directions I really think all the feds going up n down a1 is problem but the peregrines from wetherby to Grantham smash the life out the birds Worksop is shocking 4 returned hawk from 1 race .
