Andy wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2024 3:27 pm I would say Graham Potter. But only really because I’m a Brighton fan and he done a good job while there. I think he was always on a hiding to nothing in the Chelsea job.
Did he really though Andy
What’s his win percentage at Brighton I bet it’s not 40 per cent

Don't get me wrong when he was at Chelsea I loved Jose - he got things right

His "spine" of the team was superb

A great title winning team has a good goalie, good centre-halves, good centre midfielders and a good striker

Chelsea had that to perfection

Just like say Man United, Man City and Arsenal did

That "spine" has to be good

We have good players particularly in forward areas
It’s just basic stuff for euros / world cups
Plus motivation
You can’t turn us into Man City in 4 weeks and potter thinks he’s like pep when in reality he just plays without a forward and over loads the midfield ends up 70 percent possession without a shot at goal

Some of these players, especially those in the back line, if born 10-15 years earlier wouldn't get near the England squad

Regards Dave.
My choice would be Teucal the ex Chelsea manager, understands Premier league & European football, be interesting to see other members thoughts.
Regards Dave
I'll give you one a bit from "left field"

Zinedine Zidane

You cannot argue with his record

Nothing against that as he’s not a coach just needs to manager players

He managed a team of superstars to great success at Real Madrid

You can't say that he didn't live up to the pressure to perform there

It doesn't matter who you pick and how you set them up, if the players don't perform you are screwed, which sadly is exactly what happened. Too many expensive prem a donnas I'm afraid, they would be better off picking the national squad from the First division, at least they would play with some passion !! The English football league set up also doesn't help, as Andy said, we should reduce the amount of foreign players allowed per team, and they need more/longer international breaks so that the squad has more playing time before the big tournaments, but unfortunately it's all down to money once again.
As far as the next Manager goes, I personally don't agree with foreigners managing the National team, I know none of you will agree but I'd like to see Lee Carsley given a chance, yes he hasn't managed at top level but he has managed youth teams for years so knows the young talent that is available.
I have said same for years

Round pegs don't fit in square holes though Trevor

Play the players in the positions in which they excel !
