I have a bale of nice clean straw in a barrel, I put a generous amount in a bowl when I put it in a box.
This makes me feel like I am doing the right thing.
It is in fact, useless.
There is a big gum tree hanging over our back fence.
This is what the pigeons gather for their nests. Gum leaves.
The gum leaves are flat and make a good nest, and the eucalyptus oils in them deter vermin.
When I tipped that bowl out into the bin, that was how it was.
We think we know best. We don't, honestly.
Nesting material.
Great photo of Flynn. I have straw in my loft for them but once they have access to the outside they bring in all sorts from the garden.
They particularly like the reeds from the pond iris.

Back just enjoying club racing for the time being.
I also put straw in the loft, some birds use it but it is amazing what other stuff they do try to bring in, I've even had them try and drag my bob wires to their boxes
They will pretty much use anything but their favourite is pine needles from our neighbours pine tree. I've used nest felts this year and as my birds have only been going out at weekends they haven't had much opportunity to build nests, hopefully they will be back on an open loft next week.
