I've noticed a bit of grumbling about the lack of momentum on the forum. A lack of topics and feedback.
So, if I may, I submit what we could all quite easily do. It's a pigeon forum and any of us could show a little bit of their management and share some ideas.

I've got a lovely first round of squeakers, and earlier today I put rings for each pair on twist ties to hang them on the nest boxes, and recorded them in the book.

The first pair of babies to hatch were big enough to ring, so I put a new nest felt and clean straw in a bowl and put them in it when I put the rings on them.
Then I took the paper out of the box, gave it a quick brush and put clean paper in.
I always do that, I find that the nests are often a bit rough by the time they've sat the eggs and raised them for a week.
I have lots of nest felts and don't mind switching out a grubby nest. The parents are always keener to care for the youngsters in a clean box, for some reason.

You will notice that I only have half fronts on the boxes.
I've found that unlike a full front, if a pigeon gets in the wrong box it gets chased straight back out again. I've seen terrible fights when a pigeon gets in the wrong box with a full front on it and gets cornered. Broken eggs, murdered babies.....
I can put the other half front on if I need to, but hardly ever do.

Hi Murray are those rings the ALL plastic without a metal core? If so they are banned here in Europe. They were trailed by the Belgian Union for only one year, but the FCI made a rule that ALL rings must now have a metal core.

I like the way you keep you book of records for breeding ect....
do you put this on a laptop as well or just the book mate.
I don't have any fronts on my next boxes would you advise putting half ones on like your, as I have seen an odd bird go in the wrong box but they are straight once the bird from that box chases it out, so easy with no fronts on

Yes Leon, they serve no actual purpose when down. No strange bird can be trapped in the wrong box, I've never had a pair of birds fight in a box for years. Since I stopped racing, any YBs I breed for myself stay in the old bird loft. This year I've bred just 2. The hen perches in the box she was bred in along with the pair that bred her, no fighting. The cock was given a spare box which at present in half closed. He perches there, next year it will be fully opened and he'll pair to the Young hen as she'll be the only spare hen in the section.

I guess i get the point just never been in any loft that had the boxes full open whilst in use. But i do understand that it definitely makes a possible fight less dangerrous. But i also use a different type of box one with swingable frames if that makes sense.
