Amoxycure (Amoxicillin) is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in racing pigeons, such as E. coli, Salmonella (Paratyphoid), and respiratory tract infections. It provides rapid, deep tissue penetration, but should be used under veterinary guidance to prevent antibiotic resistance.

So it should sort them out Chris, let us know how they are doing.

RP vaccine at weaning followed up with good loft hygiene spray floor's & perches regularly with Vircon S, feeding a light diat so you don't over fill with heavy feed that takes a long time to digest. Also I use the Vircon in the water just a pinch, but fill drinker first then add the Vircon as it will froth up.

Hi Dave, hope all is well mate.
When do you give the "pinch of virkon in the water" -Are you giving it on a regular basis as an on-going preventative or do you give it when you spot the symptoms of ybs.
Hope you get a good young bird season this year.

Hello Dave, so I've jabbed my ybs at weaning with the mandatory Paramyxovirus then a few weeks later they get the RP vaccine, which I've given for the last 3 years if they come down with ybs I've found it's not as bad. I also give everything in the loft the Salgen for Salmonella.
They have a bath once a week with Virkon, & the same in the drinker only a pinch about a quarter of a teaspoon to a 5 ltr drinker ok Dave. That's just what I do with my old & ybs.

Very nice system there. We also vaccinate after weaning RP then after 4 weeks a 2nd RP. then about 3 months before season starts paramyxo and 2 months before season starts again RP thats when we start training. Eversince we follow this plan never had any problem with any kind of Yb sickness or anything the like. If weather gets really hot for 1-2 weeks we do also usually give them 2-3 days kombi mix from tollisan to prevent yb sickness

So I'm not sure when the PMV had started in the UK but do you think that this caused ybs in racing pigeons ( maybe 1980).
Was it developed for chicken's which are far bigger in size & weight, do you think the 0.2 dosage is to big a dose for vaccination on racing pigeons. Would a more up-to-date development with a vaccine for pigeons not be cost effective & that's why we are still using a vaccine from 50 years ago for poultry for the food chain that are probably only going to be alive 40 / 50 days max, any thoughts.
