Loft

Whats the air like in the loft Dave. In mine its very stale!
I can smell the birds badly.
I really noticed it when I went to help young Will ( who came to your place) All he has is a 6 x 6 30 year old chicken shed but the first thing I noticed was no smell and the air in the shed was fresh. It was then I realised something was wrong with the way I built my loft.
Having said that, I didnt have too bad a season ( by my standards anyway) so can only look forward to doing better next year.
I told Will that I would rather race to his little old shed than mine lol

Hello Dave, I don't think the air is being circulated enough to my mind, I can leave my door which is wired open so more air gets in, but the downside to this is could it be to drafty. So my thinking is to try & see if I can drop the box perches down at the back which would allow me access to the back wall at the top.

Think u sence when it's right ,,I had beautiful up n over roof loft next to it was flat roof ,,flat roof loft the birds in there were thrashing birds 8ft away in beautiful roof loft ,I changed air flow so up n over roof only had 2 inch of pull along front with in a week both teams coming exactly the same ,just little tweaks and you get it right.

If any one smokes a vape or friend does just blow the smoke from it in two loft see what the smoke is doing.

When I've used a smoke bomb I can see the smoke coming out of the side wall from the 2 inch pipes I have, but I'd like more draw in at the front out at the back, if I get this right I can tweak it a bit more.

I got a few cobwebs in and around the vents and they hardly move.

I've looked at it today I think I can do the second section by dropping the box perches down this will allow me to have about 3 foot across to try & get ventilation right on the back wall.
The problem I have is my nest boxes are in the 1st section on the back wall, so the top 2 boxes are where I need to put a vent for the exit flow.

There fixed Neil, the draw be right on top of the cock & hen's heads, & if I had chicks in the nest how would this effect them or not, any feedback please .

I have a corridor in between both sections I could vent the back wall of that, would I still get the pull though as it would be on an angle from the first section.

I'll see tomorrow & have another look, maybe block off the top 2 boxes or do away with them entirely & still do the ventilation for that section.
I'm sure I can improve it with a rejig of things.

Made a start today alteration for circulation of air in the 1st section, cleared away so have an empty panel that i can cut to fit metal ventilation grids, they should be here tomorrow. Hopefully improving the air quality then do the same in section 2.
